UCLA researchers find potential problems in federal hospital program

A national program to reduce rehospitalizations may have increased death rates for heart failure patients, researchers reported Nov. 12. A study published in the medical journal JAMA Cardiology found heart failure mortality rates increased during the federal Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program, which incentivizes hospitals to avoid excessively hospitalizing patients within 30 days of their previous hospitalization. Health club serves underprivileged Vietnamese and Hispanic communities

Student volunteers spent eight hours Sunday providing healthcare services to Vietnamese-Americans in Westminster, California. Ministry of Coffee brings Australian drinks, food to Westwood Village

A new Australian coffee shop opened in Westwood Village on Saturday. Ministry of Coffee, located on Glendon Avenue, will also sell all-day breakfast and lunch. Manager Nicole Rodrigues said she thinks MOC is different from other coffee shops in Westwood because it roasts its coffee in-house and provides a full food menu. Read more...

Professor speaks about improving lives of indigenous women at UCLA event

An anthropology researcher said at an event Thursday she hopes to improve the lives of indigenous women across the Americas by highlighting their stories. Rosalva Aída Hernández Castillo, a professor at a research center in Mexico City, talked about her findings from researching incarcerated indigenous women at a talk hosted by the UCLA American Indian Studies Center in Bunche Hall.
