Survey finds education cost worries more than half of first-year students

Incoming first-year undergraduate students are increasingly concerned with the cost of their education, a national survey found. The Cooperative Institutional Research Program Freshman Survey found 55.9 percent of incoming first-year students are at least somewhat concerned with the cost of their education and 13.3 percent have major concerns about financing their education. Implementation of UCPath at UCLA, medical services delayed by defects

The University of California Office of the President is delaying implementation of a new payroll system at UCLA and UCLA medical services. UC Payroll, Academic Personnel, Timekeeping and Human Resources project, a uniform center for managing payroll across the UC’s campuses, will now only launch at Associated Students UCLA, UC Merced and UC Riverside, said Scott Waugh, executive vice chancellor and provost, in an email to UCLA faculty and staff Thursday. Gov. Jerry Brown signs “sanctuary state” bill into law

Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill into law Thursday that protects California’s undocumented residents from federal immigration authorities. Senate Bill 54, unofficially known as the “sanctuary state” bill, reduces the extent to which local law enforcement can provide federal authorities with information regarding undocumented immigrants. ASUCLA expects to lose more than $1M, plans to open more restaurants

Robert Williams, ASUCLA’s executive director, said the organization has budgeted a $1,298,000 loss for ASUCLA’s Services and Enterprises entity this fiscal year because of decreasing textbook sales and growing labor costs. UCLA economics department to launch concentrations in undergrad major

Economics students will soon be able to specialize their education by enrolling in a concentration that focuses on a particular goal or academic interest. The economics department is launching concentrations this quarter, which will be optional and consist of sets of suggested upper division courses that students in the department can take to focus on a specific area of economics, according to the department’s website.
