Californians asked to conserve power due to statewide heat wave

UC disputes state audit report on new payroll system costs

State audit reveals UC violated displacement guidelines

The University of California violated guidelines governing the replacement of employees with contract workers, according to a state audit released Tuesday. After reviewing 31 service contracts at three UC campuses, two medical centers and the UC Office of the President, auditors found that two of these contracts did not fully adhere to UCOP’s displacement guidelines, which determine the process for replacing employees with contractors. UCLA students watch eclipse with telescopes, glasses at event

A long line of people spiraled around the Court of Sciences to view the solar eclipse through telescopes last Monday. More than a thousand students and community members came to campus to watch the partial solar eclipse at “The Great UCLA Eclipse” event hosted by the Earth, Planetary and Space Sciences department. LAPD’s drone use proposal raises privacy, misuse concerns

Los Angeles community members spoke up at a public forum in Westwood on Wednesday against city police’s proposed use of drone technology. At the Wednesday night meeting, Los Angeles Police Department officers addressed residents’ concerns about a proposal to allow the department to use nonweaponized drones, or small, unmanned aerial devices, to aid in police operations that might put officers’ lives at risk.
