Beckman Scholars Program selects 2 UCLA undergraduates for 2023-2024 scholarship

This post was updated June 5 at 12:11 a.m.  The UCLA Beckman Scholars Program selected two undergraduate researchers in May as the organization’s 2023-2024 scholars. The scholarship – which is part of a national program funded by the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation – is awarded annually to two undergraduate researchers for an honors or departmental thesis project under the supervision of a UCLA Beckman faculty member. USAC proposes resolution for expansion of COVID-19 protection measures

The Undergraduate Students Association Council proposed a resolution calling for UCLA to expand COVID-19 protection measures. The resolution – sponsored by Cultural Affairs Commissioner Alicia Verdugo and General Representative Eliana Sisman – calls for the reintroduction of a mask mandate, the continuation of vending machines for COVID-19 tests and the reinforcement of isolation guidelines. UCLA study identifies traits shared by birds in urban environments

UCLA researchers found that urban birds share common characteristics that may help them adapt to urban environments. The study, which was published May 8, found that birds in urban areas tend to be associated with certain traits such as smaller body sizes, more generalized diets and a larger number of eggs laid, said Morgan Tingley, a co-author of the study and an associate professor of ecology and evolutionary biology.
