Panelists discuss ideas for gun control at Kerckhoff event

Activists and experts shared their opinions about gun control and how students can protect themselves against gun violence on campus at an event Wednesday evening. Four speakers discussed their ideas for and against gun control at a panel called “Guns and Our Community.” The Undergraduate Students Association Council external vice president’s office held the event at the Kerckhoff Grand Salon to commemorate the campus shooting which occurred about one year ago. New USAC slate’s platform promotes protection for minority students

President Donald Trump’s election spurred Nicole Corona Diaz, an undocumented student, to become more involved in political activism. “When Trump was elected, we didn’t know what was going to happen, whether we were going to get deported or whether (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) would still be around,” Corona said. GSA election sees 3.5 percent decrease in voter turnout

About 9 percent of eligible graduate students voted in this year’s uncontested Graduate Students Association election, down 3.5 percent from last year. Elections commissioner Anne Blackstock-Bernstein said 1,077 graduate students voted out of a possible 11,834. Read more...
