Tensions were high as candidates in this year’s undergraduate student government elections wrangled over their qualifications and platforms at a debate Wednesday. The undergraduate student government election board issued five sanctions between Saturday and Tuesday this week. The election board investigated a total of 12 complaints and ruled to issue three sanctions for social media violations, one for a leafleting violation, and one for a media advertising violation. Activists and experts shared their opinions about gun control and how students can protect themselves against gun violence on campus at an event Wednesday evening. Four speakers discussed their ideas for and against gun control at a panel called “Guns and Our Community.” The Undergraduate Students Association Council external vice president’s office held the event at the Kerckhoff Grand Salon to commemorate the campus shooting which occurred about one year ago.
