UCLA’s Honorific Naming Committee unanimously recommended the removal of Cesár E. Chávez’s name from the department of Chicana/o and Central American Studies on Friday, following a Wednesday New York Times investigation which revealed his alleged sex abuse. The committee – which received the request from the department Wednesday – sent its recommendation to Chancellor Julio Frenk and Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Darnell Hunt, according to a Friday letter obtained by the Daily Bruin. Three United Auto Workers units ratified contracts with the UC on Friday, averting a strike after months of bargaining. The UC Board of Regents approved a $298.2 million budget Wednesday to convert a Los Angeles building into a UCLA Health complex. The UC reached tentative agreements with three United Auto Workers units that had threatened to strike, the units announced Friday. The tentative agreement, if approved, will become the first contracts for Student Services and Advising Professionals-UAW and Research and Public Service Professionals-UAW, which were officially recognized by the University in April and September, respectively.
