Assembly bill asking financial transparency of UC passes into law

Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill into law earlier this month aimed at making the University of California’s financial reporting process more transparent. Assembly Bill 1655, which passed unanimously in both houses of the state legislature, adds and amends a section to the state’s education code, to prohibit coordination between UC campuses and the UC Office of the President when a state auditor requests information. UCLA updates policy to remove student addresses from directory

UCLA is updating its student records policy to remove student addresses from the campus directory, university officials announced Monday. The Registrar’s Office announced in a campuswide email it will update UCLA Policy 220, which concerns student records disclosures, in accordance with a University of California policy change last month. Bill ensures nonresident students held to higher academic qualifications

UCSA plans to introduce regents’ student engagement evaluation system

University of California student leaders are creating a system to evaluate UC Regents based on their engagement with students. The UC Student Association will release the UC Regent Report Card annually to evaluate how often UC Regents visit campuses and talk to students during their visits and how they vote on issues that affect students. Student advocacy group campaigns for UC to use renewable energy

A statewide student advocacy group is campaigning to have University of California campuses use 100 percent renewable energy by 2050. The California Public Interest Research Group released a 10-point plan last week to make campuses more sustainable, said Nico Gist, a UCLA coordinator for CALPIRG. Read more...
