UC SHIP board looking to add surgery options for transgender students

University of California representatives are working to include certain transgender surgeries in student health insurance coverage. Attendees at the UC Student Health Insurance Plan meeting Tuesday discussed voting to add breast augmentation surgery for male-to-female transgender students to the UC SHIP plan, said David DiTullio, an Executive Oversight Board graduate representative for the Student Health Advisory Committee. Assemblymember proposes tuition freeze for public universities

A state legislator introduced a bill Feb. 9 that would freeze tuition at public universities and colleges in California. UC to collaborate with Israel on technological research

The University of California will work with Israel to increase technological research and development, University officials announced Wednesday. In a memorandum of understanding, the UC agreed to work with Israel’s National Technological Innovation Authority to collaborate on projects that could boost technological and product innovations for potential commercialization in the international market, according to a statement released by the UC Office of the President. Student leaders’ Fund the UC campaign aims to prevent tuition hike

Many students aren’t aware of a campaign that aims to increase funding for the University of California system, said some UC student leaders. Student volunteers for the UC Student Association’s Fund the UC campaign have increased their lobbying activities after the UC Regents increased tuition and fees by 2.7 percent, or $282, at a board meeting in January in San Francisco.
