UC Board of Regents votes to explore employment for students without legal status

The UC Board of Regents unanimously approved a working group Thursday that will explore how to allow all students to work regardless of immigration status.  The regents, who met at the Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference Center, first discussed the Regents Policy on Equitable Student Employment Opportunities during a closed board session, followed by voting during the open session. Former UCLA Health gynecologist James Heaps appeals sexual battery conviction

Former UCLA Health gynecologist James Heaps is appealing his sexual battery and penetration convictions. Heaps – who was sentenced to 11 years in prison April 26 – is appealing on the basis that the trial court may have erred in procedure and denied Heaps a fair trial, his attorney Leonard Levine said. UC employees rally for $25 minimum wage outside Board of Regents meeting

Dozens of UC employees gathered outside a UC Board of Regents meeting at Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference Center to call for higher wages. The rally, put on by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 3299 – which represents more than 30,000 UC service workers and skilled craft workers – called for minimum wages of $25 per hour, said Frank Valdez, the strategic communications director for AFSCME Local 3299. Student Researchers United merges with United Auto Workers Local 2865
