UC decides not to renew Elsevier subscription after months of negotiations

The University of California will not renew its subscription with the world’s largest scientific publisher, a University press release announced Thursday. The UC and Elsevier, which owns over 2,500 journals such as Cell and The Lancet, were unable to come to an agreement regarding publishing fees and subscription costs after months of negotiations. Town hall addresses UC involvement, controversy regarding Hawaii telescope

Activists said they think students should pressure the University of California to divest from the construction of a 30-meter telescope on a sacred Hawaiian site. The Pacific Islands’ Student Association organized a town hall and teach-in Monday where students spoke with activists about the controversy surrounding the UC’s involvement in the construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope in Hawaii. State auditor finds financial transparency recommendations for UC remain incomplete

The University of California has not implemented recommendations for increased transparency from a 2017 state audit, according to a new report from a state auditor in January. Read more...
