Panelists discuss potential Westwood improvements at UCLA event

Los Angeles experts and city officials said students should continue advocating for Westwood issues at a panel Thursday evening. The undergraduate student government office of the external vice president, the Graduate Students Association and Abundant Housing LA, a group that advocates for more housing, held “How Westwood got trapped in time (and what to do about it)” at the UCLA Anderson School of Management. LA Police Commission votes to begin testing unmanned drone system

Students increase presence in Westwood Neighborhood Council meetings

Students have had more of a say in Westwood politics since the Westwood Neighborhood Council created a committee to address student issues in July. The Student Advisory Committee moved three action items to the council’s agenda at Wednesday’s meeting. Read more...

LA proposes limiting who can appeal marijuana dispensary licenses

The city of Los Angeles may make it more difficult for residents to challenge marijuana dispensary business licenses. The Los Angeles City Council is considering legislation that would only allow individuals who work, live or own property within 500 feet of a marijuana dispensary business to appeal the dispensary’s license. Westwood residents concerned over proposals for new student housing

Some Westwood residents said they are concerned that UCLA’s plans for new student housing may negatively impact the community. UCLA announced a proposal in May for additional student housing at five locations both on the Hill and around Westwood to accommodate increasing enrollment. Read more...
