Saffron and Rose Ice Cream to reopen in Westwood after renovations

The Saffron and Rose Ice Cream on Westwood Boulevard will reopen this weekend after being temporarily closed for renovations. When customers enter the renovated family-run shop, they will experience the smell of fresh waffle cones and homemade Persian ice cream made from organic ingredients at a seating area with eight to nine extra spaces, said store manager Fred Papen. UCLA chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity rescinds charter

The UCLA chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha stopped operating as an official campus fraternity Wednesday because of financial problems. The fraternity internally decided to pull its charter because it could not pay off its debts of between $10,000 and $25,000 to the national Pi Kappa Alpha organization, said Matthew Li, president of the chapter and a third-year geology/engineering geology student. Academic student workers and graduate student researchers represented by the United Auto Workers union recently ended a nearly six-week strike in which they called for better working conditions and equitable wages. The contract stipulates pay increases for all workers – for some, pay increases of up to 80% – as well as anti-harassment policies and increased childcare support. However, the negotiations have struck controversy among some UAW members dissatisfied with the results of the contract. What are your thoughts on this issue? Only the voices of the bargaining team were heard during the negotiation process – the contract is not all-encompassing of student workers and should not have been ratified. The mediation resulted in a realistic contract for academic workers at this time. The agreed-upon result generally covered what the strikers were asking for. I have feelings about this that are not described in the options above. The contract is neither good nor bad and/or this issue does not directly affect me as a student.
