Saffron and Rose Ice Cream to reopen in Westwood after renovations

The Saffron and Rose Ice Cream on Westwood Boulevard will reopen this weekend after being temporarily closed for renovations. When customers enter the renovated family-run shop, they will experience the smell of fresh waffle cones and homemade Persian ice cream made from organic ingredients at a seating area with eight to nine extra spaces, said store manager Fred Papen. The Westwood Community Council meets several times a year to discuss issues relevant to the Westwood Village business and residential community. A spokesman for Senator Ted Lieu (D-Torrance) said Lieu is negotiating with Robert McDonald, secretary for Veteran Affairs, about issues regarding the VA West Los Angeles Medical Center campus. UCLA chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity rescinds charter

The UCLA chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha stopped operating as an official campus fraternity Wednesday because of financial problems. The fraternity internally decided to pull its charter because it could not pay off its debts of between $10,000 and $25,000 to the national Pi Kappa Alpha organization, said Matthew Li, president of the chapter and a third-year geology/engineering geology student.
