UCPD arrests 2 people for suspected mail theft from off-campus buildings

UCPD arrested two people in connection with the theft of mail from off-campus buildings Friday. The crime was reported around 4:30 a.m. Friday. Officers made contact with the suspects at the intersection of Midvale and Levering Avenue, according to an emailed statement from Jeffrey Chobanian, UCPD’s Acting Captain of the Administrative Bureau.  Officers recovered pepper spray and what they suspected to be methamphetamine from the suspects, along with multiple objects suspected to be burglary tools – including a hammer, crowbars, pliers, screwdrivers and keys – Chobanian said in the statement.  Mail had been stolen from University Apartments North among other buildings, he added The suspects were brought to Los Angeles County jail and face charges of burglary, mail theft, identity theft, misappropriation of lost property, possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of burglary tools and possession of tear gas. New California law seeks to improve safety by restricting parking in certain areas

A new California law seeking to improve pedestrian safety at intersections officially took effect this January. Assembly Bill No. 413, also known as the “Daylighting to Save Lives” bill, requires parking to be at least 20 feet from marked and unmarked crosswalks to improve visibility for pedestrians and drivers. Police respond to report of dead body on Le Conte Avenue

A body was found on Le Conte Avenue on Tuesday.  The 56-year-old man was found on a bench opposite Ralphs grocery store. According to a post from UCPD on social media platform X, there was no foul play suspected as the man was determined to have died from natural causes.  “Earlier today, UCLA PD patrol officers and detectives responded to a report of a body on Le Conte Ave, across from Ralphs,” UCPD said in an Instagram post Tuesday.
