LA Metro Purple Line Subway Extension enters preconstruction stage

Metro contractors began preconstruction in Westwood for the LA Metro Purple Line Subway Extension this week. Workers began relocating utility lines and sawing and potholing areas covering Section 3, the part of the Purple Line that covers Wilshire and Westwood boulevards, on Monday. Read more...

VA West LA campus designates 10 safe parking spots for homeless veterans

Homeless veterans who live in their cars now have access to 10 safe parking spaces at the Department of Veterans’ Affairs West Los Angeles campus. This is a first step in the VA’s larger initiative to address homelessness, which includes the construction of 110 housing units by 2020 and 1,200 total units to be built on the VA’s West LA campus. VA looks to move forward on West LA plan for housing homeless veterans

The Department of Veterans Affairs plans to build more than 1,000 housing units at its West Los Angeles campus. Broxton Avenue proposed to turn into pedestrian-only area for events

Westwood officials approved a plan Thursday to transform a portion of Broxton Avenue into a pedestrian-friendly plaza for community events. The Westwood Village Improvement Association Board of Directors approved a proposal to apply for the People St program, which allows the city to transform a road into a pedestrian space for community events. Polling locations announced for neighborhood council special election

Students and Westwood community members will be able to vote to create a new neighborhood council at two locations May 22. The Los Angeles City Clerk released the locations of two polling places in Westwood on Monday for the subdivision process to create the North Westwood Neighborhood Council. Read more...

Law student to end five-year run on Westwood Neighborhood Council

Angus Beverly has seen more students engage with local issues since he became a board member of the Westwood Neighborhood Council. Beverly, a student at UCLA School of Law, is ending his term on the Westwood Neighborhood Council, which advises the city council on Westwood issues, after graduating on May 11. Read more...

Bruin Bike Share cruises beyond Westwood area in new joint program

Students can now rent a bike and drop it off at designated locations in Santa Monica, Beverly Hills and West Hollywood. The Bruin Bike Share program expanded its services Monday to connect with Santa Monica’s Breeze Bike Share program, the Beverly Hills Bike Share program and the WeHo Pedals Bike Share program.
