The California NanoSystems Institute in the Court of Sciences lost $3 million, a sizable chunk of its budget, after its temporary three-year funding agreement at UCLA expired this summer. Now, the institute will only receive and $800,000 operating budget from UCLA. As one of the consequences, the institute will have to reduce its community outreach programs.
