On Monday night, the first presidential debate took place. Many things were said, including the dubious claims that Donald Trump is not “braggadocious,” that the entirety of the economic recovery is due to a “big, fat, ugly bubble” and that the Democratic National Convention could have been hacked by “somebody sitting on their bed who weighs 400 pounds.” Yet amid all this, very little mention was made of what arguably matters most: college and student debt. Editorial: Supreme Court must hear O’Bannon case, secure athletes’ right to own image

The ball is now in the U.S. Supreme Court to decide the amateur status of collegiate athletes. Among the thousands of petitions set to go in front of the eight current justices over the coming weeks – each petitioner hoping for a hearing with the nation’s highest court – only one case brings with it the ability to begin dismantling some of the injustices facing collegiate athletes: the Ed O’Bannon case.
