Submission: Attacks on statistics lecturer Vivian Lew are based on misinformation
When UCLA statistics lecturer Vivian Lew received the alert of police activity in Engineering IV, she immediately thought of her students’ safety. There was an exam scheduled for her Statistics 20 students in a nearby building, so she hastily sent an email instructing them to ignore the scheduled location and avoid the area, reassuring them that they would have the opportunity to take the exam at a later time. Guillaume Kosmala: Social justice warriors fuel Trump, discredit left-leaning politics
Our campus is a snapshot of the future of this nation’s politics, and the tactics that may be employed by social justice warriors over the next decade were on full display at Tuesday’s protest against the event “Feminism is Cancer.” Bruin Republicans hosted Milo Yiannopoulos, technology editor for the conservative news and opinion website Breitbart.com, in the Broad Art Center, where they estimated that more than 400 supporters showed up to listen to him talk. Submission: Bruin Republicans’ talk on feminism shortsighted, destructive
Bruin Republicans has stated in its mission statement that it is dedicated to promoting “calm debate on campus and constructive dialogue.” So, they hosted Milo Yiannopoulos for a talk entitled “Feminism is Cancer.” Yiannopoulos, a reporter for Breitbart, is notorious for comments he has made, including his claim that women want men to commit more rapes because women want “more to complain about.” We, at Bruin Democrats, were understandably confused as to how “calm debate” and “constructive dialogue” would result from such an event. Submission: UC should extend educational programs to prisons to reduce recidivism rates
As of 2014, California had more state prisons and jails than University of California and California State University campuses combined.
