Freshmen make instant impact on women’s tennis

When Stella Sampras Webster announced the 2011 recruiting class in June of last year, ranked No. 3 in the country at the time by TennisRecruiting.net, she couldn't help but get excited. The sixteenth-year coach received commitments from three blue-chip recruits in Robin Anderson, Skylar Morton and Kaitlin Ray, who had all been ranked top-five in the country at some point during the 2011 year. Men’s basketball places March Madness hopes in playoff tournament

Last season's Pac-10 basketball player of the year was Arizona's Derrick Williams, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft. The leading scorer in the Pac-12 conference to date is Oregon State's Jared Cunningham, who isn't getting so much as a sniff at the NBA's first round by draft experts and is relatively unknown to those outside of the conference's scope. Senior forward Sydney Leroux was selected by the Atlanta Beat with the first overall pick in the Women’s Professional Soccer draft Friday. Leroux becomes the ninth Bruin to be selected first overall in a professional draft.


6 Bruins selected in 2012 MLS draft

The UCLA men's soccer team's season ended abruptly over a month ago in the College Cup semifinals in Alabama, but several members of the team kick-started their professional careers by getting drafted into Major League Soccer over the past week. Sophomore midfielder Kelyn Rowe (3rd overall to the New England Revolution) and junior forward Chandler Hoffman (13th overall to the Philadelphia Union) were chosen in the first round of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft on Jan. Senior setter Kyle Caldwell averaged 11 assists per set in three games to lead the Bruins to victories over Lewis, Springfield College and Hawai’i. UCLA captured its seventh Outrigger Hotels Invitational title in 12 appearances. The team will host Stanford on Friday.
