A 2009 UC policy requires all new construction and renovation on campus to comply with LEED Silver Standards. LEED, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, rates buildings on their sustainability efforts and design. Features rated range from natural ventilation to low energy appliances to non-toxic paints. UCLA has 14 LEED certified buildings and over 20 in planning or construction. UCLA community service group Circle K hosted its annual Pillow Fight Sunday to fundraise for the Alexandria House, a transitional home for women and children. Located in downtown Los Angeles, the House provides a variety of services for homeless women and survivors of domestic violence and aims to help them secure stable and independent lives. More »
