UCPD and the Los Angeles Fire Department put out a fire on Roebling Avenue at around 10:35 p.m. Sunday.
The fire followed UCLA women’s basketball NCAA’s national championship victory against the University of South Carolina – its first-ever NCAA title – earlier in the day. Fires are often set on Roebling Avenue following major sports wins by UCLA.

People dragged several items into the street – including branches, furniture and a wooden pallet – before setting them on fire around 10:25 p.m. One attendee wore a firefighter costume for the event.

Attendees played “We Didn’t Start the Fire” by Billy Joel at 10:28 p.m., and about 25 people gathered on the street.
Two UCPD officers arrived at the scene minutes after the fire was lit and used a fire extinguisher on the flames, but did not fully put out the fire.
A fire truck arrived on the scene at 10:35 p.m., and firefighters fully extinguished the flames soon after. Firefighters then moved leftover debris out of the middle of the street, and the crowd fully dispersed by 10:45 p.m.
