UCLA alumnus Frank Marshall’s ‘The Bee Gees’ receives 6 Emmy nominations

Frank Marshall’s documentary proves the Bee Gees’ legacy is “Stayin’ Alive” to this day. The alumnus and executive board member of the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing For A Documentary/Non-Fiction Program and Outstanding Documentary Or Nonfiction Special for his work on the documentary “The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart.” Following the career of the family act, their personal lives and the sociopolitical context that the Bee Gees worked in, the film is also a contender for four other Emmy awards for its writing, editing and sound design. UCLA faculty member Emmy nominated for meticulous work on ‘WandaVision’

Mark Worthington needed more than just an Infinity Stone to create Wanda Maximoff’s reality. Set in a post-“Avengers: Endgame” world, “WandaVision” follows the infamous Scarlet Witch’s (Elizabeth Olsen) complicated journey through grief and loss as she creates an alternate sitcom-themed reality to relive a life with her late partner, Vision (Paul Bettany). Sound editors emphasize the quiet in Emmy-nominated ‘The Queen’s Gambit’

Working together like pieces on a chessboard, the soundtrack of “The Queen’s Gambit” is a resounding checkmate. Sound rerecording mixer, sound editor and alumnus Eric Hoehn received nominations for both Outstanding Sound Editing and Sound Mixing for a Limited or Anthology Series, Movie or Special for his work on the show’s finale, “End Game.” The limited series follows chess player Beth Harmon (Anya Taylor-Joy) as she ascends into chess stardom and follows a winding road to personal growth, with the final episode portraying the emotional peak of both journeys.
