‘The most beautiful part of Powell’: Students applaud reopened main reading room

For the first time in two years, UCLA students can use the Powell Library Main Reading Room. In fall 2022, the library’s main reading room shut down for seismic renovations to meet updated building codes, said Allison Benedetti – associate university librarian for teaching, learning and research – in a written statement. Students share their notes on UCLA study spots’ pros and cons

To find the perfect study spot at UCLA, students have to race for available seats and wrestle one another for power outlets. UCLA has 22 outdoor study spaces, 30 indoor study spaces and eight libraries, according to the UCLA website. Read more...

AFSCME Local 3299 rallies together for 2-day strike against UC

This post was updated Feb. 17 at 5:30 p.m. Thousands of workers struck against the UC on Wednesday and Thursday. Members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 3299 – which represents patient care, service and skilled craft workers – voted to authorize a strike with 99% support after alleging that the University bargained in bad faith during contract negotiations. Student Alumni Association’s annual Beat ‘SC rally brings UCLA fans together

Students flocked to Wilson Plaza on Wednesday for the Student Alumni Association’s annual Beat ‘SC Rally. Approximately 2,750 people attended the event, a tradition ahead of UCLA football’s yearly rivalry game against USC, according to a written statement from Elizabeth Salgado, a third-year theater student and one of the rally’s directors. Westwood therapy team helps students take post-election stress down a few octaves

A mental health street team helped students handle Election Day stress outside Ackerman Union on Nov. 5. Octave, a mental health service with a clinic based in Westwood, organized outreach teams outside UCLA voting centers at both Ackerman Union and the Hammer Museum on Election Day, providing resources such as breathing exercises and access to therapy to help students manage their political stress.
