California Legislature approves bill to allow undocumented students to hold campus jobs

The California Legislature approved a bill Friday that would allow undocumented students to hold campus jobs at UCLA and other public universities across the state. The Opportunity for All Act – or Assembly Bill 713 – would bar the UC, California State University and California Community Colleges from denying students employment based solely on their ability to provide proof of federal work authorization. UC-backed $7.5 billion research bond moves closer to 2028 ballot

This post was updated Sept. 6 at 9:11 p.m. The California State Assembly passed a UC-backed multibillion-dollar bond measure Monday that, if approved by voters, would fund scientific research throughout the state.  Senate Bill 895 – or the California Science and Health Research Bond Act – would create the California Foundation for Science and Health Research, which would award $7.5 billion in grants and loans to private and public research institutions, including the UC. CalMatters sues UC Regents over failure to fulfill public records request

This post was updated Aug 30 at 11:28 p.m. A California news outlet filed a lawsuit against the UC Board of Regents on Monday after UCLA failed to fulfill public records requests for nearly one year.  CalMatters, a nonprofit news organization covering issues across California, filed a lawsuit to obtain records about how UCLA pays its student-athletes, the outlet reported Monday.
