‘Black mold, leaky roofs’: Proposition 2 puts $10B for school repairs on ballot

California voters will decide next Tuesday whether to approve a $10 billion bond for school renovations. If passed, Proposition 2 will allow the state to sell $8.5 billion in bonds to repair K-12 schools and $1.5 billion in bonds to improve community college campuses, said Steven Brint, a distinguished professor of public policy and sociology at UC Riverside. Proposition 4 offers $10 billion in bonds for fire, water, land protections

This post was updated Nov. 4 at 12:11 a.m. California voters will vote on a bond dedicated to fighting climate change this November. Proposition 4 would authorize the state to fund $10 billion in bonds for “water, wildfire prevention, and protection of communities and land.” According to the California Department of General Services, a general obligation bond is a form of long-term borrowing that the state promises to pay back with interest.
