News editor Alexandra Crosnoe appointed as 2026-27 editor in chief

State ballot proposal would approve $8.4 billion in bonds to fund medical research

This post was updated April 5 at 9:54 p.m. California nonprofits are working to put an initiative funding immunology research on the November ballot. The initiative would authorize $8.4 billion of state bonds to support the research – half of which would be required to support developing treatments for Alzheimer’s disease, cancer and heart disease – if 546,651 signatures are collected for it to appear on the ballot.
