Court rules UCLA not liable for criminal acts among students

A state appeals court concluded Wednesday public universities and community colleges are not responsible for protecting students from criminal acts by other students. The decision is a response to a lawsuit a UCLA student filed against the University of California Board of Regents and UCLA officials in 2010, after another student attacked her with a kitchen knife. Officials install signs to help visitors navigate Westwood

Westwood officials installed their first wave of wayfinding signs last week in an attempt to help visitors navigate Westwood Village. The Westwood Village Improvement Association, also known as the BID, spent about $200,000 to add 26 small signs meant for pedestrians, 42 larger signs meant for cars and three directories, said Andrew Thomas, executive director of the BID. UCLA punter arrested on suspicion of rape, suspended from team

UCLA backup punter Adam Searl was arrested Thursday for allegedly raping another student. Searl met the student at an off-campus party last October, police said. Searl accompanied her to a residence, where she fell asleep and woke up to him sexually assaulting her. Read more...
