School of Music launches new music industry major program this fall

The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music started offering a new music industry Bachelor of Arts program this fall. Robert Fink, an associate dean for academic affairs in the School of Music, said in an emailed statement that the major will consist of many of the same classes as the existing music industry minor, in addition to capstone projects and presentations. Study links historical redlining in LA to distribution of bird communities

A recent study by Los Angeles researchers found that historic redlining practices contributed to the development of distinct bird communities throughout LA. By aligning census and mapping data from the 1940s to the present with current bird and vegetation distribution data, the researchers demonstrated that greenlined areas, which historically had more green space, tend to have more birds that associate with natural habitat features. District 5 interim housing to provide beds for people experiencing homelessness

The Los Angeles city council unanimously approved a project Oct. 20 to build an interim housing facility for people experiencing homelessness in Westwood. The project will be located at the site of a city-owned parking lot on the corner of Pico Boulevard and Midvale Avenue. Read more...

LA City Council committee approves amended motion to increase rent

Daily Bruin wins 42 awards at student media convention in Atlanta
