Questions arise about Persian Square in the Westwood Neighborhood Council

Several Westwood community members think a proposed neighborhood council should not include Persian Square while others believe the new council would benefit the Persian community. Westwood Forward, a coalition of students, business owners and homeowners created earlier in November, proposed subdividing the Westwood Neighborhood Council to better represent the interests of students and business owners near UCLA. UCLA neuroscience assistant professor uses VR to study memory formation

A UCLA researcher is using virtual reality to learn more about how the human brain forms memories. Nanthia Suthana, a neuroscientist and assistant professor of neurosurgery and psychiatry, received a $3.3 million, three-year grant from the National Institutes of Health’s Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies Initiative to expand her research on how memories form when people move and navigate in a virtual environment, the university announced Monday. Local business owners share opinions on Westwood Forward proposal

UCLA professor receives award for work countering travel ban

A UCLA law professor received an award from the Middle East Studies Association for her advocacy work earlier this month. Asli Bâli received the 2017 Middle East Studies Association Presidential Award for her work challenging President Donald Trump’s travel ban earlier this year on individuals from several Muslim-majority countries. Nutritional information of on-campus restaurants to be made available

Students will be able to look up nutritional information for campus restaurants starting spring quarter through a menu available online and in print. Undergraduate student leaders are creating a menu that features healthy options at campus restaurants, such as those in Ackerman Union. Read more...
