Student-founded Alzheimer’s initiative earns 2024 Westly Prize finalist nomination

A nonprofit founded by a UCLA student was nominated as a finalist for the 2024 Westly Prize for Young Social Innovators. Wellness center Seyhart incorporates Eastern, Western medicine

Two UCLA ophthalmologists are bridging gaps in health care through a combination of Western and Eastern medicine. In 2020, Drs. Tara and Colin McCannel founded Seyhart, a wellness center in Santa Monica that seeks to incorporate complementary medicine – a combination of alternative and traditional medical practices – into American health care. Lives Without Knives hosts vegan small businesses, advocates at VegFest

Vegan booths and food trucks lined Wilson Plaza for VegFest on Jan. 18 to showcase local businesses and promote a plant-based diet. The event, hosted by the youth-led organization Lives Without Knives, was held to educate UCLA students about veganism and the ease of a vegan lifestyle, said Chandni Sacheti, the organization’s founder. UCLA Health to acquire West Hills Hospital and Medical Center

This post was updated March 29 at 6:01 p.m. UCLA Health has received approval to acquire the 260-bed West Hills Hospital and Medical Center. The proposed expansion was approved by the UC Board of Regents and will help UCLA Health mitigate issues with capacity constraints, said a UCLA Health spokesperson in an emailed statement. Gov. Gavin Newsom announces plan to modify scheduled health care wage increases

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced plans to revise scheduled health care wage increases in his 2024-2025 state budget proposal, which was released Jan. 10. Senate Bill 525, passed in October, established incremental wage increases to gradually phase in a new statewide $25 minimum wage for all health care facilities by June 1, 2028. Read more...
