Gallery: 24 hours in Santa Ysabel: Exploring the historic town, family businesses

A brisk morning air greets Santa Ysabel, California, where a community of local businesses prepare for residents and visitors. Located in the backcountry of San Diego County, the historic town is full of tradition and family businesses. Daily Bruin senior staff photographer Crystal Tompkins spent 24 hours exploring the town.

Design director

Tompkins is the 2025-2026 Design director. She was previously a 2024-2025 assistant Design director. She is also a Copy, Graphics and Illustrations contributor. Tompkins is a third-year cognitive science student from San Bernardino County, California.
