Staff react to EPA announcement, say new rules favor energy industry

UCLA environmental health researchers said they think the rules the Environmental Protection Agency announced last week will favor the interests of the energy industry. New tax plan proposed by GOP could hurt students and universities

A tax bill House Republicans introduced Thursday would cut tax benefits for college students and higher education institutions. The plan reduces tax credits college students receive for tuition by categorizing employer-provided tuition payments as taxable income and eliminating a deduction on the interest college alumni pay on student loans. Liberal student organization campaigns for out-of-state candidates

Students in a grassroots political organization spent three hours calling voters in Virginia to support a local Democratic candidate at a phone banking event Friday. About 12 students in Bruins Elect met in a Westwood apartment to call residents in the Virginia House of Delegates’ 68th district to garner support for Dawn Adams, a candidate in Tuesday’s election. Lawyers and activists discuss prison health care at law school event

Legal experts and activists said at a symposium Friday they think the United States needs to improve its prisons’ mental and physical health care systems. About a dozen lawyers, academics and activists attended UCLA Law Review Discourse’s first symposium about health care issues in prisons and the long-term physical and psychological consequences of prison life on formerly incarcerated people.
